Sasol South Africa was investigating alternative 3D measurement approaches for assessing critical piping and pressure vessels. Conventional approaches presented challenges when dealing with real-world pipe geometry and elevated surface temperatures.
Sasol called on HMR High Tech Machine Tools to conduct on-site testing of Creaform's 3D scanning and Pipecheck NDT technologies.
The evaluation included scanning at temperatures ranging from 100°C to 300°C. The team was also able to scan 20 pipe areas in less than one day — rather than weeks.
The published Creaform case study concluded that the technology met the criteria being evaluated, including accuracy, repeatability, ease of operation and performance under elevated temperature conditions.
